Mayoral wannabes -- Ed Kempen and Dan Brake -- acting like jerks

Dan Brake and Ed Kempen try to apply to run for mayor in the last 15 minutes before a non-deadline to run in a non-election that is not occurring (so far) in February.

(Howrylak used to do the same thing--always file at the last second, always with Papa Gosselin the Tea Party Kingmaker, at his side.)

It's a lovely video. You can see most of the TCU leaders and soldiers who fought saving the library and placed 3 fake library proposals on the ballot back in 2010. These are the great cheating politicians of Troy. A rogues' gallery of the men who brought you the disastrous tax cap that thrust Troy into financial chaos and who have lied and twisted their way into every scandal since.

As a counterpoint, please read the city attorney's letter in response to the SoS claim that Troy MUST hold an election in Troy. It's on Patch here.

How about being patient? How about letting this situation get resolved. How about not trashing Troy for 5 minutes while this gets fixed.

But no.

Here they are again. Pushing their way in. Acting like obnoxious fools. Cheating. As usual.

Bob Gosselin is on camera talking to someone. He mentions how he had been talking to the (recently defeated) county clerk -- Bill Bullard -- a close friend of his and COUNCILMAN DOUG TIETZ'S BOSS! Then he gets on the phone with some unnamed person, comically, in front of the "No cell phone sign."

See this for what it really is. They were playing a stunt and trying to get Dan Brake and Ed Kempen to be the ONLY candidates for mayor running in February. But there IS NO election in February. Not yet. They thought they might be able to BULLY OUR CITY STAFF INTO ACCEPTING THEIR APPLICATIONS. But our city staff members are wise. They walked away.

But these creeps, these friends of Janice Daniels, these anti-library, anti-Troy nutcases are using their Tea Party political connections (Oakland County Clerk and Secretary of State) to try to hold their death grip political control of Troy, especially since the majority of  voters recalled their beloved mayor Janice Daniels.

Quite an image, isn't it? All these men running in and threatening these women, standing around, breaking rules, being loud and bossy and trying to cheat us all by having only Brake and Kempen to choose from -- for MAYOR!!!!

They want to be honored with elected office? I hope Troy voters have outgrown any interest in this kind of behavior on the city council or in the mayor's office.

And remember! They are trying to FORCE A $50,000 special election on Troy. WHY? If we wait just a few months the mayoral election will be absorbed by the election that is already PAID FOR. So why are Gosselin and Co. begging all their high-placed friends and calling in all their political favors to spend 50 grand of YOUR money?

I guess it's because the election showed them that in November, when most of Troy voters are paying attention and getting out to vote, they have a lower tolerance for these partisan, Tea Party game players (like Daniels). If they are to get Dan Brake or Ed Kempen into office, they'll NEVER do it in November. Too many people are paying attention. They have to sneak them into office in February just after a bruising recall campaign, just like they tried to sneak them onto the ballot in this video.

Let's end this type of political gamesmanship in Troy.

If Dr. Michael T. Ross (running for city council), Ed Kempen (running for city council and mayor), Bob Gosselin, Dan Brake (running for mayor), Ray Watts (ran the anti-recall campaign) and all the other men in this video succeed in spending your hard-earned money in February, PLEASE do not reward them by VOTING for them.

They haven't earned our trust. They have earned only our scorn and disgust.

  1. Apparently, this video was shot as their proof, just in case we do have a February election, that they had their applications in time. What a choice--NOT!--between Dan Brake and Ed Kempen. Wonder who the mysterious voice on the other "throw me a lifeline" phone call was? Was it Bill Bullard, the Oakland County Clerk? And if he is on the same page as this Tea Party contingent, why didn't he specify the expected election date on his official letter to attorney Bluhm?

  2. Do any of these guys have JOBS? Is Gosslin doing this on taxpayer time? I recall reading Mr. Brake's "resume" when he applied for a position on a committee. He has no education. Not exactly the "skill set" that is required to be an effective Mayor. We don't need someone else who is overwhelmed and unqualified to interpret a budget. And Mr. Kempen has no ethics, which was evident when he filed the multiple, misleading library millage proposals. I wouldn't hire either of them to walk my dog.

  3. What a bunch of bad (amateur) actors! Absolutely pathetic…

  4. I too wonder how they knew about the filing deadline and no one else. What information are they privy to? Their connections seem to go further up the ladder of Oakland county politics, an indication of how critical it is to know all the candidates that are elected into office.

  5. Correct me if I am wrong (and I know someone will...), but I believe the dates are standard election dates. This would be public information regardless of whether or not it was specified in any letter from the State or County.

They are standard dates. Dates that were outlined by the Clerk in the Wednesday before Thanksgiving meeting. When she and the City Atty said that there would be NO February special election. When they said the time had passed for notification of the electorate to file, which was Nov. 19. The meeting ended with no action. So, there was no election planned, thus the 4pm Nov. 26 deadline meant NOTHING. The comment in the letter from the SOS to extend the dates for an election, are without precedence and raises many red flags. This political stunt was twofold: one to try to force the clerk's office to fold and to make a big public splash as if they are soooo mistreated by the city. (the ones they want to be part of). Honestly, if the clerk had caved, there would be people with attys coming out of the woodwork to sue the city over the lack of following state election law for anyone beside those two TCU actors that wanted to run.

As for Gosselin, I used to hear from people that were around when he was on council that he ostensibly worked for one of the auto companies at the time, but that he was hanging around city hall ALL the time. So yeah, aren't our tax dollars paying for him to be a county commissioner? Why isn't he doing that job? Schemers and scammers all of them.
I didn't think the reputation of politicians could be much lower, but I see that it is possible for these people to take it to the lowest of lows. This situation with these awful people, is almost beyond one's comprehension.

  7. I believe that Gosselin was talking to Rusty Hills when he was on the phone in the video.....check this link to see who Rusty Hills is

    1. That's bad news if true. Hills is communications director for the Attorney General, the one who has the authority to sue us. I'm feeling like the deck is stacked against Troy with the Republican powers-that-be supporting the Tea Party agenda unquestioningly.

  8. Ha Ha Ha Ha. These guys are totally brilliant. I mean they're real Einsteins. Filming your financial info and putting it on Youtube. Now the entire world knows Mr. Kempen's and Mr. Brake's addresses, phone numbers and checking account/bank routing numbers. I'm sure nothing bad could come of that. LOL

  9. Yes, this is public information, but what did these guys know? They seem to think an election is going to happen in February, but nothing was mandated for the date of February. When you read the letter sent to Attorney Bluhm, she does not dispute that an election will be held, but nothing was mandated for the date in February.

  10. I would like to thank Dan Brake and Ed Kempen for supplying us with their bank account numbers!

    Good job, you numbnuts!

  11. Bob Gosselin, Dan Brake, Ed Kempen and Michael Ross ... lovely. Just lovely. The guys who would spend down our Fund Balance and put our bond rating at risk in a heartbeat are also fighting to have the city spend $50,000 on a special election so they can slide another inept candidate -- they're the ones who brought us Janice Daniels -- under then noses of a low voter turnout electorate. And their cronies in the AG and SoS offices are all for it! Just lovely.

  12. I think this tape can be turned into the state as a case of waste, fraud and abuse by Mr. Gosselin. This is not what he is paid to do, unless he was on vacation time.

    1. Could it also be noted that the guy doesn't even pay his property taxes? It's only if he is running for office and an election is coming up that he bothers to do so. And can we throw in his arrest for soliciting a prostitute to help the State understand what kind of an unethical person is leading this charge?

  13. Wow, I'm waiting for episode 2 of "Troy Election" (their YouTube name). I wish they had filmed and posted their behind-the-scenes dealings, it might have brought clarity to what is happening in Troy now, e.g., the State is on the same page as Robert Davis (serial suer)?

  14. I don't understand what was wrong. The city clerks should have taken it regardless if an election was going to take place. Since, at the time, the election was in question, it seems like no big deal to stamp it and then let the whole thing die on the vine later. If it succeeded then those two guys were wise to put their names up there before the deadline. Sorry, I don't see any bullying here. I think your characterization is way off. There seems to be a lot of anger on this site. Unfortunate.
