Janice Daniels -- Stateswoman!

Janice appeared at a town hall debate about the library millage at which members of the community expressed the desire to keep the Troy Public Library open for seniors, kids, families and for the benefit of property values. In a down economy with crashing property values and city revenues, community members said they didn't mind ponying up a little more (taxes were way down anyway) to save the library.
Janice Daniels told the people of Troy who cared about the library that they were whining.

  1. I'll give Janice this compliment: She's doing an exceptional job at bringing the community together. Unfortunately (for her), they're all coming together to remove her from office.

  2. I have to say that this should have been a defining moment for all voters. No one who says something like this should be Mayor, no matter what party they are affiliated with. She was not respectful to her oppononents and continues to display this lack of respect at every turn.

  3. I had the honor of participating in this Town Hall as a representative for the citizenry who fully supported our RIGHT to have a public library in Troy with dedicated funding.

I was then and continue to be appalled by the behavior of this woman who now sits in the mayor's chair. Share this with everyone you know who lives or works in Troy. THIS is what she thinks of anyone who doesn't agree with her.

  4. Memorably, one of Janice's anti-library millage cohorts (who is now a council member) had argued that libraries were becoming obsolete, after all anyone with a Kindle doesn't need a library. I got a Kindle this Xmas, and using our library's membership in the electronic Midwest Cooperative Library services I have "checked" out to my Kindle three books and one audiobook FOR FREE in only one month. No library, it would have cost 9.99 x 3 (Kindle book cost) + 14.95 (Audio books monthly membership) = $45/month x 12 months = $540/year. My property tax increase for the .7 library millage = $90. Boy, I'm glad for the library, my overall savings = $450! Even a Tea Partier, who doesn't care about the value to society of a tax supported library open to all, could not argue with the actual $$$ savings for this Kindle toting individual.

    1. Oh, but remember...he was only JOKING. He said all that TONGUE IN CHEEK. 'Cause that's an admirable thing to admit...that everything your argued for months was just a JOKE.

      And now he's on council...

  5. Did she ever produce the budgets, reports and letters proving the idea that we do not need to increase taxes to support the library? The people who appeal to her are people who do not really understand how local government works.

One report I saw circulating was the one showing the salaries of the the Troy government employees. It was very misleading. In fact, I had my neighbor actually believing that the city manager and the city mayor were the same jobs. Her argument was that we were paying the salaries of two mayors! She had no idea that the mayor's job was just a symbolic figure and did not receive a salary.

These are the type of people that Daniels attracts. People just angry about anything and she sures knows how to rile them up.

  6. Let's face it, at least 3 and likely 4 people sitting at the council dais are intellectual lightweights at best. I'd be willing to bet 100 bucks that not one of them ever set foot in the library before they started to run for office, and likely didn't go in even then.

Janice deserves everything she gets now--she heaped abuse on everyone on council before her with the exception of her "mentor" Martin. What goes around, comes around.

  7. Janice Daniels still can't admit she is wrong, re her motion once she was mayor to fulfill her campaign promise of a "7-day library". It was voted down 6-1 (with her one dissenting vote) in face of the reality of no "hidden" money.

    1. The fast approaching budget sessions should be very interesting.

  8. Janice and her crowd have never let facts get in the way of their narrative of cheap hate and bigotry.
